Short Film Society

Or maybe this should be called The Collaborative Film Society, (so we can one day create a feature together) a collaborative project created by the filmmakers of Northern Colorado.

Production will be taking place on April 18th and 19th of 2026.

This project was born out of a conversation that we had at one of our monthly meetups, the desire to make a short film, get on set, get experience and to make things happen. SO we thought, instead of creating a 48 hour film project, we would collaboratively, step by step create a short film as a community. At our September meetup we walked through the steps, how we wanted to formulate the process and came up with a loose schedule. We ask those who are planning on participating to join us with grace, ease, light heartedness and the willingness to work together as a team. Leave your ego at the door and let's all learn together!  We will also need you to be committed to the position/ roles that you have chosen and follow through as much as possible.

If you would like to participate in our 1st Short Film, please fill out this FORM by October 17, 2025.

Now….. How exactly do we see this going down? Here are the steps that we worked out together at our September meetup, with a loose framework of how we see this going.

IDEA PITCH - Due by October 17, 2025

Each writer can submit up to 3 log lines for consideration. The submission form is at the end of the form linked above. Each log line should be 2-5 sentences that encompasses your idea.

Some guidelines to keep in MIND . . .

Please remember that this will be part of a collaborative writers room when we create the script. DO NOT SUBMIT LOGLINES FOR SCRIPTS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN WRITTEN. Please, do not submit your life long idea that you already have fully planned out in your head and won't be willing or able to collaborate on. This project is an exercise in collaboration and creating something as a group.

A logline must present: who the story is about (protagonist) what he strives for (goal) what stands in his way (antagonistic force).

For further exploration in a LOG LINE and how to create one, this is great.

Once we have received all of the loglines, we will either meet in person to vote OR if there are a LOT of them, we will do a digital vote to narrow them down to the finalists. Our finalists will present their loglines to the group and we will vote anonymously until we have a winner.

WRITER’S ROOM - November 3 - December 1

Once we have an idea, the writer’s room will begin. The creator of the winning log line will be the lead in the writer’s room. We will have a showrunner/ mentor that will oversee the Writer’s Room to make sure it stays on task, respectful and fun! Together, the writer’s room will “beat” out the story based on the logline, create characters and come up with the foundation for our script. Once that is done 1-2 people will take the 1st pass at creating the script. (This may change once things commence and the room finds their groove, but this seemed like a great jumping off point).

DIRECTOR’S PITCH - Nov 17 - how to make a pitch deck. Pitch to take place in the 1st two weeks of December (date TBD)

Signed up to be a director? Each interested director will create a Pitch Deck with their ideas for tone, visuals, cast and their vision once the script is created. Your pitch can include a DP that you want to partner up with, or DP’s can also pitch their ideas to help find a collaborator. At the November meetup, we will cover WHAT IS A PITCH DECK? How do you create one, etc, so everyone is working from the same knowledge.

All Director’s will pitch in the room with all participants that want to participate, led by our Producers. After each Director pitches themself, we will take an anonymous vote to decide who we will hire. You can submit as a Directing team of 2 if you would like.

PRODUCER’S TEAM - Starts November 3

As the Writer’s room forms and begins to write, the producing team will work on creating opportunities in the community, gather information about locations we have available, seek in kind donations, potentially monetary donations and begin to formulate how we can make this short film happen. They will also create Character Breakdowns with the writers and Director once we are ready, create audition breakdowns and arrange auditions to find our stars.

PRE-PRODUCTION -Jan 19th or Feb 2nd begins (pending completed script)

The nuts and bolts begin to come together, locations, crew, gear, schedules, casting, rehearsals, we are now actively working on making this film happen.
